Shri Ram - Austerity of Speech
Austerity of speech!
Rām narrated about his friendship with Sugriva, power of
Hanumān & great act of Vānaras to his ministers. Rām also told this to the
citizens of Ayodhya. Hearing achievements of Vānaras against strength of
demons, citizens of Ayodhya were astonished & full of respect
Rām then spoke to his councilors about his
meeting with Vibhishana. After recounting all details, resplendent Rām then
entered Ayodhya, which was crowded with rejoicing people, together with all
Vānaras
The citizens hoisted flags on every house to
greet their king. Rām acknowledged greetings of all & reached the paternal
palace which was traditionally occupied by Ikshavāku kings. Entering the palace
of his great-souled father, he offered salutation to Kausalya, Sumitra and
Keikeyi & spoke meaningful words to Bharat-Give this great palace of mine
which looks excellent with Ashoka garden & consists of pearls & cat's
eye-gems to Sugriva for his stay
Hearing the words of Rām, Bharat having true
prowess, holding Sugriva by his hand, entered the palace. Bharat then said to
Sugriva-O capable person! Order messengers to make arrangements for Rām’s
coronation. Sugriva then gave 4 golden jars encrusted with jewels to 4 Vānara
leaders & said-O Vānaras, Get ready in such a way that you await my orders
tomorrow, with these water jars filled with water from the 4 oceans
The great souled Vānaras, huge as elephants,
went with speed like eagles, ordered by Sugriva & leapt quickly in the sky
Jāmbavan, Hanumān, Vegadarshi & Rishabha
brought water-jars filled with water. They brought waters from over 500 rivers
in those jars. Energetic Sushena brought a jar, adorned with all types of
precious stones, water from the eastern sea. Rishabha brought from southern sea
in a golden jar, covered with stems of red sandal wood tree. Gavaya brought
cool water from western ocean in a large jar set with jewels. Virtuous Nala
swiftly brought water from the northern sea.
All set for coronation!
TEAM Leaders share relevant details with all
members to avoid any confusion that may arise. Here Rām could sense that seeing
Vānaras in such huge numbers being part of procession, may sow doubts in the
minds of citizens of Ayodhya as well as ministers. He thus clarifies to all,
the contribution made by Sugriva & his army in his expedition against
demons & acknowledges their effort for all to understand & respect
He also offers the best place, seat of
Ikshavāku’s, to Sugriva for his stay. This takes friendship bonds to the next
level. Real friends don't always seek positive response, but they do seek
sensitive response. There should be balance of accuracy coupled with
sensitivity, when we interact with them

Austerity of speech consists in speaking words
that are truthful, pleasing, beneficial, & not agitating to others, and
also in regularly reciting Vedic literature
